Android vs iOS
April 2nd, 2016
When purchasing a new smartphone or tablet, or building a new mobile app, consider which platform will serve your needs best. Android and iOS are both operating systems which are used to run smartphones and tablets. Android is Linux based, and easier to access, change or tailor to your personal or professional needs. iOS is an Apple based proprietary system which is more difficult to customize, but is simpler to use. They each offer a host of similar services able to accomplish whatever is on your to do list. But which is better?
Each has strengths and weaknesses that have been debated since their inception. And, parallels can be drawn to the other tech argument that rages regarding PC’s and Mac’s. The market share for Android devices is greater than the market share for iOS devices. The same is true for the number of PC’s vs. Mac’s. Android devices and apps crash more, and have more viruses than iOS. Being the big dog has its benefits, but also its drawbacks.
Economics and human nature are consistent whether discussing cars, clothing, plumbing supplies, filmmaking or smartphone and tablet operating systems. The greater the size the greater the advantage in cost of goods and selection. Smaller. However, the smaller business has better quality control and service. Sometimes less is more. A large organization can diversify, but little companies develop niche markets and specialty products, and can adapt to change more readily.
So, which is better? It’s obvious isn’t it? It’s the one you like. The answer isn’t objective. It’s personal, and always subject to change.
